Judges and Publishers
A panel of judges is selected by the marathon committee and may include librarians, book store owners, former publishers, editors or professional writers.
The winning manuscript in each category (Adult Manuscripts, Young Adult/Juvenile Manuscripts) is sent to a publisher and/or agent for review. Past publishers have included Kids Can Press, Annick Press, Thomas Allen, Napoleon & Company, Key Porter Books, Owl Kids/Maple Tree Press, Cormorant Books, Red Deer Press and Lobster Press.

Chris Bucci is a literary agent, director and full partner at The McDermid Agency. He represents bestselling authors such as Bob Rae, Timothy Caulfield, Susan Delacourt, Jowita Bydlowska, James Grainger and Kerri Sakamoto. Most recently senior editor at McClelland & Stewart, he worked primarily with non-fiction, bringing to the M&S catalogue the likes of Alain de Botton, Christopher Hitchens, Paul Watson and Sir Martin Gilbert.
He began his career at the University of Toronto Press and soon became an acquisitions editor in social sciences and cultural studies. Bucci joined HarperCollins Canada in 2003 as a non-fiction editor. Moving to M&S in 2004, Bucci helped revitalize the McClelland & Stewart non-fiction program, establishing relationships with international authors, agents and publishers.
Young Adult/Juvenile category
Peter Carver is currently Red Deer Press' Children's Book Editor. Under his direction, Red Deer Press has published notable talents as Kevin Major, Martine Leavitt, Cora Taylor, Ted Staunton and many more. Peter Carver was awarded the Canadian Library Association Award for Advancement of Intellectual Freedom in Canada and the Writers' Union Freedom to Read Week Award. When he's not editing children's books, Peter Carver teaches creative writing classes in Toronto.
