So, we have good news to share... one of our marathon writers has done just that. Yay! Amy!
In July 2010, Torontonian, Amy Stuart visited Huntsville for the weekend and wrote a novel during the 72 hour Muskoka Novel Marathon event. This month, June 2014, it was announced that Amy signed a two-book contract with Simon & Schuster Canada for an as-of-yet-untitled literary thriller series... yes, it's the same novel she started here at our writing marathon, four years ago. We couldn't be more happy for Amy and her continued success. Hard work and Perseverance is in her blood.
"For me, it’s an intense vacation, one in which I can become completely immersed in whatever I’m writing, and where I write so fast I don’t have time to second guess what I’m doing. What comes out is sometimes warty and awkward, but it’s inspired, and it forms the first draft of some of the best, most honest work I’ve ever done. And on top of all that, we’re helping people learn how to read and write. How darned cool is that?"
Pat has several other titles in print as well, including the true crime/biography Judge Not, a real-life account of a man falsely accused by two dogged and corrupt RCMP officers. Her short story The Great Inevitable will be published in the anthology, Expiration Date in Spring 2015. Her dieselpunk (historical science fiction) series The Fog of Dockside City was launched as a means of helping to raise funds for literacy programs. The second in the series, The Ghastly Bargain, launches June 2014, and she will be writing the third in the series, Tempest Rising as this year’s Muskoka novel. All profits of the 2013 pilot novel, The Obliteration Machine, go toward literacy programs like the ones offered by YMCA Simcoe Muskoka and by Le Centre d’alphabétisation / The Centre for Literacy in Montreal. Other works she’s completed and hoping to publish soon include historical crime (Mummer’s the Word, Lady Butcher and the Accidental Saint, which was judged Best Adult Fiction in MNM 2011), historical sf (Her Poison Voice) and literary (Latchkey). She is currently working on the sequel to Helix.
