Muskoka Novel Marathon has a new venue for 2014!
We will be writing our 72-hour novels at the
Active Living Centre (Canada Summit Centre)
Some Updates from the Writer Liaison
My name is Lori Twining and I am volunteering again this year, as the Writer Liaison for the Muskoka Novel Marathon. I am here to assist you with any questions you may have regarding the event. So, save my email
address in your contact list for future reference. Don’t be afraid to ask me questions. If I can ease your mind in the least possible way, that will make us both happy.
Let me be the first one to announce that we have set a date for the on-line MNM Registration. Mark your calendar…
Tuesday, March 18th at 7:00pm
There will only be 31 spots available! This means you need to act fast in order to secure your spot. The best news about the registration process this year… it will be EASY, QUICK and PAINLESS. All we will require is your name, phone number, email address and payment. A follow-up email will arrive a week later asking for other information, such as your bio and your t-shirt orders, etc.
Last year, a new rule came into play…the top five fund-raisers will receive their guaranteed reserved spot for the following year’s marathon. So, the top five fund-raisers of MNM 2013 were Cheryl Cooper, Shellie Yaworski, Pat Flewwelling, Tobin Elliott and Lori Twining… and we are saving them a spot for this year's marathon, if they want it.
I’ll just mention a few exciting things about this year’s marathon:
Date: Friday, July 11th to Monday, July 14th
New venue. We will be hosting this year’s marathon at the Active Living Centre (ALC) in Huntsville. The ALC was built as an addition to the Canada Summit Centre. See picture above.
Showers/Pool. The Canada Summit Centre has showers and a pool! We are currently working on getting some passes to use the facilities… we are hoping for at least one free visit per writer. If that doesn’t work out, there will be a small fee to use them. I’ll keep you posted on that.
Sleeping. The ALC has more room for a writers’ sleepover during the marathon. We will have space for at least a dozen people to snuggle up in their lawn chairs or sleeping bags in a quiet room, all at the same time! More details to follow on that.
Space. As I mentioned above, the ALC has more elbow room for each individual writer to spread out a bit, plus we are hoping we can all eat together… at the same time… in the same area… at the same LONG table (or several tables pushed together)!
Generous Sponsors. We have many generous sponsors who will be delivering our meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will be a continuous supply of coffee and tea available for you.
Swimming. It’s only a 5-10 minute walk to a beautiful and peaceful swimming area, where you cannot only swim in the lake, but relax and think about your story, develop new sub-plots and create unique characters, etc. in beautiful cottage country setting.
Downtown Shopping. All kinds of shopping will be available within a 5-10 minute walk.
T-Shirts. We will be ordering t-shirts the week after registration. This year we are taking a vote regarding the quote/saying we put on the back of our shirts. Alison Hall will be taking care of this for us. If you would like to
give your two cents, please email Alison at email@example.com, with your suggestion.
Donations. We are hoping that each MNM participant will raise a minimum of $500 to go towards YMCA Literacy. Donation Pages can be started once you are guaranteed your spot. I will send more details on that after registration.
Facebook. We have an MNM group on Facebook that we share upcoming details of the marathon with any interested writers. Members also post interesting writing articles from time to time. If you’re not a member yet, please drop by. You can find us here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/MuskokaNovelMarathon or search for Muskoka Novel Marathon.

I hope you consider joining us for a fantastic 3-day writing marathon in the Muskokas. It is shaping up to be one of the best novel writing marathons yet! I’m sure I’ve forgotten to tell you something, so, you’ll be hearing from me again soon.
In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to let me know, if there’s anything we can do to make your marathon experience more comfortable, creative, fun and inspiring.
Happy Writing until I see you in July!
