Funds raised at the Muskoka Novel Marathon are donated to the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Learning Services in Huntsville, Ontario. These funds are used to directly support literacy programs in our community. Two out of every five Canadians struggle with basic reading and writing. Literacy levels influence career opportunities, salaries, standard of living, housing, education and the ability to participate fully in our communities.
This video features a YMCA Learning Services participant and demonstrates how the program has improved her quality of life. (We were thrilled that Nora joined us as a first-time writer in the 2013 Muskoka Novel Marathon and has subsequently joined us almost every year since!)
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is continuously adapting to the needs of the community. Programs funded by your donations include:
- English as a Second Language classes
- Digital Technology Training (computers, smart phones, tablets)
- One-on-one training and support for low level learners
All of these FREE programs are made possible by people like you, who are willing to get involved and support the learning of others. On behalf of the students, staff and tutors at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Learning Services in Huntsville, I want to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those involved in the success of the Muskoka Novel Marathon.
