About YMCA Literacy Services

In 2011, the programs offered by the Muskoka Literacy Council were transferred to the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. The same amazing programs with the same incredible instructors are now offered under a new umbrella that will ensure the longevity of these services for the people who need them. For more information, please visit  http://www.ymcaofsimcoemuskoka.ca/literacy-services.

All educational upgrading and skills training is provided by volunteer tutors and all support is provided free of charge. By volunteering their time to help their students improve their academic skills, tutors are providing these individuals with the tools they need to enable them to participate confidently in the workplace, in the community and in society.  Tutors often need to help students consolidate skills they have missed during formal school training. However; tutors also recognize that after a lifetime of learning and coping in everyday society, adult students have many skills they may not realize that they possess.  Tutors help their students to articulate their goals, and support them as they work towards reaching them through student-centred, individualized training plans.

Employment, Education, Independence…Take The Next Step.
We work with individuals to deliver training in the following areas:

  • Academic upgrading (non-credit)
  • Literacy and basic skills in reading, writing and math
  • Computer and life skills
  • GED and ACE preparation
  • E-learning
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Savvy Seniors

You can choose to learn through one on one tutoring or as part of a small group.
YMCA Literacy Services offers daytime and evening classes.

60 William Street, Huntsville, Ontario

These services are provided at no charge.
